Also, why is it that all Tollers MUST sleep like this? You all do it.

Tokyo - Japan

Ok, so day 2 of my Narita trip, four of us decided to get the train into Tokyo, after a short language barrier complication we got our tickets and set off on the 1hr and hour train journey.

Once we arrvie in Tokyo we meet up with a Japanese crew member, who’s ever so kindly offered to show us around, while she on leave at home and i have to say she is a life saver! As we would have had no idea what to do or where to go!

So first stop was lunch, we went to a traditional Japanese restaurant where you have you take you shoes off and the tables are like ‘sunken’ into the floor.

I also managed to consume my first meal with chopsticks! I must be like the only person in the world who doesn’t know how to use chopsticks, it does take you ages to eat but i got there in the end.  That must be why they are all so skinny! either way it was yummy

After we were all fed and watered it was off to Sensoji Temple in Asakusa. Like the other temple in Narita this one was also very colourful, lots of reds and gold colours. This Temple is in the old part of Tokyo and as you will see from the number of surrounding people its a pretty big tourist attraction. With lots of little shops it buy gifts and nik knacks to buy on the walk up to the Temple.

We spent about an hour and a half looking though the shops and at the temple, had our fortunes read (i got a bad fortune) and washed about our ‘sins’ at the surrounding water features.

After the temple, we were off to Shibuya, the famous hectic crossing in Tokyo

This is one the main shopping area of Tokyo and has featured in a few films i believe. We only really came here to see how crazy it is when all the people cross the street and it is just like a sea of people.  This is also the place where the Hachi (Hachikō) statue is.

After a couple of snaps of the area we walked around a bit and popped into this shop just full of photo-booths, where you can take lots of crazy picture of yourself and edit them with words and frames afterwards. This is HUGE in Japan and Koren and the girls really get dressed up to do it. I was a bit unsure at first with being so anti photographic, however its actually pretty good fun and the some of the pictures we got were hilarious. Haven’t laughed so much in ages! Makes for a good keep sake.

One of the crazy things about these photo-booths is that them make your eyes appear wider than they actually are, in some it look like my eyes are popping out my head. However this is because a lot of Japanese girls wish they had more ‘western eyes’  apparently (god knows why) so it makes them look bigger automatically.

Photobooth pic

So after the photo-booth fun it was off for some more walking around Tokyo, its incredibly humid in Tokyo even more so than in Singapore, its like your walking around in a sauna. So i’m pretty sure i lost about a stone just walking around Tokyo. So next stop was more the upmarket part of Tokyo and the name escapes me. No pictures of this we were all to busy chatting away and enjoying each other company as well as pissing ourselves laughing over the pictures still. By this time the day is coming to a close and we make out way back to the train station though a rather interesting named street…

I will never be able to capture how great this day was, not only because Tokyo is pretty amazing but also because of the company and the good times had by all. This by far will go down as one of my favourite layovers and I’m so grateful for it and the memories made. <3

                                                            ***

Ok so this concludes my Narita/Tokyo trip i am since back in the Sandpit and we are on the dawn of Ramadan….  My Roster next month is pretty hectic and my layovers are mostly UK flights: LHR, BHX, LGW. My only overseas ones are Kula Lumper and Singapore (again) so i will most likely only do an update on Kula Lumper which will mostly likely be short as i love the shopping here and shopping blog post = boring. My UK flights will be purely about catching up with amazing people from home. Then we are in September (gosh the year is nearly over already).

So signing off now. I have again been was awake since 4am after staying awake all day yesturday to make sure i slept at night, that turned out the be an epic fail.

Oh in other news i also got my upgrade, so soon no more Economy class for me soon, this is however also pretty scary :)

Narita - Japan

Ive just got back from Narita and OMG i dunno where to start. Not only did i meet some amazing crew and had an amazing time, this place is incredible and has made me really appreciate what i do. Because sometimes you can only see the negatives about this job.

First of all i was lucky to get his trip, with it being a 75hrs layover there and most of our layover are roughly 24hrs! I wish we had a 3 day Gatwick that would be amazing to go home.

Where to start, where to start. OK, I think I’m gunna have to split this post into two, one for Narita and the other for Tokyo. However they were both just one Layover. Again i wish i could post so many pictures however that would get boring so i’ll post the ones i think best

So on the first full day, myself and one of the other crew, just went into Narita, and Narita-san Shinshou-ji Temple. Narita appears to be a very small city with one main road which goes down to the Temple. With little shops either side. Including the touristy and local shops, with a whole shop for chopstick which was pretty awesome! (Everything about this trip was amazing and i will most likely be using this words often - apologies if it annoying).

I even tried the local speciality of eels (its currently eel season in Japan, (p.s I DID try some. Did i like it: NO). I was even lucky enough to even watch them be killed on several occesion in the many resturant on the way to the Temple! So you couldnt argue that they werent fresh! haha. No graphic picturs of this, im afraid.

Eels

The Temples

Even the walk up to the temple was just stunning, with lots of traditional items and colours. Everything about this place just seemed prefect.

So upon walking up the stairs and through the ‘gateway’ type passage you come to this enclosed area which crosses a small lake will a stone turtle feature in the lake.

Questions: How many turtles can you fit on one turtle feature?……. lots …haha

So we continued on our journey up the steps (and this place doe makes you feel like your on a quest) you are hit by the incredible sight of one of the main Temples

The little hut within the certain of the pictures is a gaint insense burner and it is believed that if you let the insense smoke flow over you will be cleansed of everything bad. So we cleansed ourselves.

This Temple was spectacilar and aboloultey huge! i have never seen anything like this in my life and the grounds were so peaceful and lovely which in how we managed to spend a good 3 hours just walking about taking everything in. The place is split into two main temples then lots of small temples and buildings surrouding them.

The other main temples is a higher up and takes you through more building and japanese gardens. The other Temple was alot more colourful that this one and the temples seem to be split either in nude/dark brown colours or bright red/blue/yellow/white colours.

The other main Temple:

Please note the pictures does not do the temples size justice, however wanted to show the surrouding area a little.

There are lots of traditional statues here. plaques and lots of smaller temples in the grounds of the two biggers ones. So heres just a few more pics.

After wondering around the temples we made our way back to the Hotel for dinner and drinks with 3 other members of the crew. Oh i did go for a swim before this in a massive pool!! And by that time is was gone 12pm and bed was calling.

2nd day - Myself and 3 other crew went into Tokyo however i will post about that later today or tomorrow in a sperate blog.

On the 3rd day, we went back in Narita, to do our gift shopping and i wouldnt normal talk about shopping however there is one shop there that is worth a mention. It is like a tradtional japanase medicine shop and im pretty sure if we had one of these in the UK it would get shut down before it even opened. I have no more words on this, just pictures :) ENJOY.

Brisbane/Singapore

currently its 6am in Dubai and as i cant sleep and haven’t been able to for some time thought i would updated the old bloggy-poos as its been a couple of weeks. Been on only two trips however they were loooooong ones.

Firstly a 5 day Singapore/Brisbane (SIN/BNE) and a 5 day Narita (Japan)

So I’ve been to SIN/BNE a couple of times and didn’t really have much planned. In terms of sight seeing there’s not a great deal to see in SIN or BNE. So it was just gunna be my chill out trip as i’ve been pretty hectic over the last couple of weeks with doing things and visiting new places on layovers. However did take some snaps to show.

In Singapore i did abolosulty nothing, the trip involved dinner at my Favourite Chinese: Fatty’s and a spot of shopping nothing really exciting or interesting to report here.

Brisbane

This was like my 4 or 5 trip to BNE and despite having a couple of nights out and some shopping trips i haven’t really done anything here, so this time me and another crew decided to go to Long Pine Koala Sanctuary. Its one of the key tourist attraction in BNE, were you can hold Koala, feed Kangaroos and see other native animals to Oz.  So the main thing we wanted to do was feed the Roos and hold the Koala, so first up feeding the Roos.

The place you feed the Roos is great enclosure of a couple of Acers and you can just walk around amungst them and feed them and touch them. They however are so used this that you can get very close to them. However they seem to be complelety disinterested in the food provided by the Sancuaty, you can just see them thinking ‘Not this shit again’, to be honest out of all the kangeroos we tried to feed only one actually ate some of the stuff. However it was still good and i didnt realise how big some of them can get.

(PS. This is the tiniest one in the park and the only one interesting in the food) There is a big of some of the bigger Roos Chil-laxing

Unlike many places you go to which exploit animals i like the fact that at this place in the Kangaroo pen has a ‘no vistor’ area were the Roos can chill out if they want to and its a pretty big section too. As it was early morning most of them where chilling out here…

After the Roo feeding it was off to hold the Koala’s, of cousre you have to pay a little extra but you get a proper pic and well worth it either way.

Buckley and I (i will refain my comments on how i look in this, urgh)

Again i also like that they have time periods for this and each Koala is only used for a certain amount of time. To be honest they dont really seem to mind being held however the little blighters are crazily heavy and their claws are well sharp!!!

After this we wondered around the various pens of Koala which included: The Boys, The Retirement pad, Mums and Babies etc etc. The Retirement pad was cute the golden oldies were all just sleeping away, wedges between to branches and im curious how they manage to do this esp. with being soo heavy!!

So not only does the park have Roos and Koala’s its have Dingo’s, Platypuses, Tasmanian Devil, Kookaburra (plus many more birds), Reptiles, Wombats and that’s just to name a few.

I had such an amazing day here and have too many good pictures to show and i dont think tumblr will like me for that. My only regret is that i wish i had done this sooner and also that i wish i had an iphone to take some pictures on my phone (this is pretty pathetic really, but the iphone 4 has a wicked camera). However all in all an amazing day.

Jo’Berg, Mauritius and Vienna

Ok,so what i had planned for Jo’Berg hasnt really worked out as i had expected however thats not a bad things as all is still good.

Well im currently in Jo’Berg staying at one of the amazing hotels ive stayed at since i joined Emirates and the surrounding area is pretty amazing as well. For those of you from home its like a uber posh Gunwarlf. So arrived here late morning, straight out for the supermarket shop, then an awesome prawn/chips lunch at the Ocean Basket before getting my nails done and then back to the hotel at 6pm before epic 4 hour nap in which i was officially dead to the world.

Ive been to a couple of places since i last updated this so i’ll do a combine post with them both. 1st July, with being on reserve for a couple of days, was on home standby from 10pm -6am (Home standby - i have to remain at home in case Emirates needs me for a flight between these times and it could be anything from a 45min Doha or a 8 day Bangkok/Sydney/Christchurch). However i was lucky enough to get pulled for Mauritius. However at the time i was mega pissed that i didnt get pulled for the Gatwick flight! esp as another girl on the same standby did (Never pleasing some ppl, haha)

Mauritius

Ive been to Mauritius before back in Dec 2010, however our hotel there has recently changed so was in a completely different location than before. The new hotel is in the business district of Mauritius which was abit of a downer as the last hotel had its own private beach and amazing pools. (No pics of this hotel as its pretty average looking hotel, nice but nothing amazing to see). Flight to Mauritius only about 6 hrs, however its a night flight and lack of sleep before my standby made for a very long night!

So arrive at the hotel and feeling like i could sleep for a million years ( this happens more often than not least days) but decided to get up and out and do some tanning! the sun here is epic! You tan so quickly its more like the Carbbiean/Oz sun. So me and a couple of crew go to the local beach, which is about a 30min drive away, to a lovely white sand, greeny/blue sea beach… So we stayed here until the sunset which again was stunning and makes me release how lucky i am to do this job. Before a kebab on the beach before back to the hotel to get ready for day 2 of beautiful Mauritius.

Couple of snaps of the sunset: Just before the sun went down.

Sun Set.

Beach Views.

Day 2

So on day 2 Myself and 10 other crew went on a day trip which involved speed boats, waterfalls, more beautiful beaches, and some dodgey looking chicken for lunch ( pretty sure it wasnt ‘chicken” but tasted ok) at an island BBQ.

Another early start we were up and out by 8am, to get the shuttle bus to meet the speed boat. After a short speed boat trips around the bay were arrived at private beach area where we did a spot of sunbathing for a couple of hours before jumping back on the speed boat to see the waterfall.

One thing about Mauritius is that sea is so shallow that you can always see the bottom of the sea bed through the crystal clear water! Little fact: Mauritius is rarely affected by Tsunami as the surrounding waters are too shallow for any wave to build, which i personally found pretty interesting with a geeky interest in all those kinda things. After the waterfall it was off to another remote beach for a BBQ of local fish (a whole fish, eyes, teeth and all) and the dodgy chicken which looked to have the hind leg of a mammal if you ask me…. Then before you know it the day is over back to the hotel for some R&R, couple of hours sleeep (none in my case) before the flight back to Dubai (Aka The Sandpit)

After Mauritius, 2 days off before im back on those flying machines off to Vienna. I was incredible lucky this month to get a good roster. With 2 new destination. One of which in Vienna.

Vienna

Flight to Vienna was only 5hrs and for a change had lots of nice Arabic families on board. We arrived this time early afternoon around 2pm ish. Now without taking loads of city shots which are pretty boring and dont truly capture the beauty of Vienna just a couple of pics to show. The place has amazing architecture and remains me alot of Paris with its tall, dated buildings and narrow streets.

Narrowing streets

We walked around in the prefect European sun for a hour before hoping on the metro to the film festival at the Parliament building. This really was a mixture of a film/food festival, however was lovely to sit in a lush green park with a mango spritzer or two ;). Nothing much really to report on Vienna its was just a prefect day chilling with drinks in the sunshine, chatting and watching the world go by. Managed to get myself a nice ‘british style’ curry before we were all dead so back to the hotel for well deserved sleep. I managed to sleep with the tv on, lights on and all.

The Parliament building/File Festival.

Then back to the Sandpit before another 2 days off before of to Jo’berg were i currently find myself. :) After Jo’Berg, i have about 4 days off before off on a long trip to Singapore/Brisbane. Nothing much planned for this trip, been a couple of times and the flights are all night flights, so i think dinner at my fav Chinese in Singer is gunna be it. Then after this JAPAN! Which im crazy excited about my first Japanese trip. However if i come back glowing green i hope you will all still love me. Hehe

Well gunna sign off for now, will update again soon will more pics and trips details
